FARMFIT A TRANSPARENT DIGITAL MARKETPLACE FOR AGRICULTURE
Farmfit is a pioneering, farmer-centric digital pla=orm developed by Thalavady Farmers Foundation to connect farmers, food producers, and traders. It promotes transparency in agricultural markets, with a focus on agroecological produce and advancing food sovereignty.
Through the Farmfit mobile app—available in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and English—farmers can access real-time market information, understand demand, connect with buyers across South India, and determine fair prices for their produce.
As a not-for-profit initiative, Farmfit empowers small and marginal farmers to access larger markets, make informed decisions, and strengthen their livelihoods.
WHY FARMFIT APP?
Farmers across India conAnue to face criAcal challenges—poor price realisaAon, absence of assured pricing for many crops, lack of transparency between sellers and buyers, lack of storage and processing faciliAes leading to wastage, distress sales, limited transportaAon, unfavourable market systems, dependence on intermediaries, unregulated markets, lack of market intelligence, and weak farmer organization.
Farmfit App, formerly launched as Cropfit, emerged as a response to these challenges. It was born out of the personal experience of Mr. Kannaiyan Subramaniam, founder of Thalavady Farmers Foundation, during the COVID-19 lockdown. When he shared details of his cabbage harvest on social media, the post went viral, gaining national and international attention and enabling him to successfully sell his produce.
This experience demonstrated the power of digital connectivity in improving transparency, market
access, and price realisation for farmers. Building on this insight, Farmfit was developed as a digital platform dedicated to farmers and traders across the country—enabling them to connect directly with wider markets, access demand, and secure beRer price realisation.
